Experience is Everything
Doctor Steven A. Gorcey founded Monmouth Gastroenterology in 1991 and has been practicing in Monmouth County for 30 years. In 2019, he left the practice to form Monmouth Digestive Health, located in Eatontown, N.J. He has now joined the Medical Group of New Jersey in 2025 with the new practice name MDH Medical.
After earning his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, Dr. Gorcey did his internal medicine residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Winthrop University Hospital in 1991. Dr. Gorcey was an assistant clinical instructor at Stony Brook Medical School during the fellowship.
He served as chief of the division of Gastroenterology at Monmouth Medical Center and chief of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy for many years. In addition, he was an assistant clinical professor at Drexel University Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson, teaching medical students and medical/surgical residents. He also served as chief of advanced endoscopy at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem for one month in 2014.
While routine colon cancer screening and upper endoscopy comprise the majority of Dr. Gorcey’s procedures, he also had special interests in some of the most advanced interventional endoscopic procedures performed in the world today. Along with being an expert in biliary endoscopy (ERCP – Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), which is a way of dealing with bile duct disorders through the mouth, Dr. Gorcey was one of a few select physicians who performed endoscopic gastric sleeves for obesity, and revision of gastric bypass and gastric sleeves using the Apollo Overstitch endoscopic suturing system. Being an expert in the esophageal disease, Dr. Gorcey was the first doctor in the state of New Jersey to perform BARRX radiofrequency ablation for Barrett’s esophagus, a non-invasive way of removing pre-cancerous tissue from the esophagus. He was also the first in NJ to perform POEM – per oral endoscopic myotomy for Achalasia. His ability to manage swallowing disorders using advanced esophageal functional analysis and his experience in Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease, Eosinophilic esophagitis, esophageal cancer, and motility disorders is second to none. A close relationship with the advanced laparoscopic surgeons at Monmouth Medical Center allows him to endoscopically remove large pre-cancerous tumors of the colon, stomach, and duodenum that most others would refer for surgical resection and attack complex surgical problems like fistula closure and leak repair with novel combinations of operative endoscopic and laparoscopic approaches. Dr Gorcey performs his more complex procedures at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ, and most of his routine outpatient endoscopies and colonoscopies at Advanced Endoscopy in Eatontown, NJ, a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical center. His philosophy is treating patients down-to-earthly with courtesy, friendliness, and respect, utilizing the most advanced treatment options, techniques, and equipment, pursuing painless endoscopy, easy SAME DAY colonoscopy preparation, and the lowest complication rates achievable. He truly cares about his patients, so he opened a solo practice. Dr. Gorcey and his responsive staff give the patients the time and personal care they deserve. Once patients experience “concierge” gastroenterology, they will never go back to a group practice.
