Tumor Ablation

Tumor ablation is a minimally invasive technique that destroys tumors using heat or cold. Ablation is often used for liver, kidney, or lung tumors when surgery is not an option.

Symptom Onset & Initial Evaluation

Patients are commonly referred for ablation when:

  • A tumor is found incidentally on imaging
  • Cancer requires localized control
  • Symptoms such as pain or abnormal laboratory results develop

Diagnosis

Before treatment, the evaluation focuses on defining tumor characteristics using:

  • CT or MRI imaging
  • Image-guided biopsy when tissue diagnosis is required
  • Multidisciplinary review with oncology and surgery

Treatment Guidance & Management

Ablation is performed under image guidance using techniques such as:

  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
  • Microwave ablation
  • Cryoablation

These methods precisely target tumor tissue while preserving surrounding structures.

Ongoing Management & Monitoring

After treatment at The Medical Group of New Jersey, follow-up care includes:

  • Imaging to confirm tumor destruction
  • Surveillance for recurrence
  • Coordination with oncology and surgical teams
