Common conditions seen in general urology include benign prostatic hyperplasia, stones, UTIs, hematuria, overactive bladder, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, prostatitis, and prostate-related evaluation.
Below are some of the most common conditions managed by our urology specialists. Each can link to a detailed clinical patient journey explaining symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in an easy-to-understand format.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) / Enlarged Prostate
A very common condition in aging men that can cause weak urine flow, urgency, frequent urination, and nighttime urination. Evaluation may include exam, urine testing, PSA, and imaging. Treatment ranges from medication to minimally invasive procedures and surgery.
Hard mineral deposits that can cause severe flank pain, blood in the urine, nausea, or urinary blockage. Diagnosis may involve urinalysis and imaging. Treatment depends on stone size and location and may include hydration, medication, or procedures to break up or remove the stone.
Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
Urinary infections can cause burning, urgency, frequent urination, pelvic discomfort, or fever. When infections keep returning, a urologic evaluation may help identify an underlying cause such as incomplete bladder emptying, stones, or structural problems.
Hematuria (Blood in the Urine)
Blood in the urine may be visible or found only on testing. It can be caused by infection, stones, enlarged prostate, or, less commonly, tumors of the urinary tract. Because hematuria can signal a serious underlying condition, timely evaluation is important.
A condition marked by sudden urinary urgency, frequent urination, nighttime urination, and sometimes leakage. Diagnosis focuses on symptoms, bladder habits, and ruling out infection or other causes. Treatment may include bladder training, medication, nerve-based therapies, or Botox in selected cases.
Loss of bladder control may occur with coughing, exercise, urgency, or incomplete emptying. It affects both women and men and can significantly interfere with daily life. Treatment depends on the type of incontinence and may include pelvic floor therapy, bladder training, medication, procedures, or surgery.
ED is the ongoing difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sexual activity. It may be linked to blood flow, nerve issues, medications, stress, or chronic health conditions such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication, devices, hormone evaluation, or procedural options.
Prostatitis / Chronic Pelvic Pain
Inflammation or irritation involving the prostate can cause pelvic pain, urinary discomfort, painful ejaculation, and urinary symptoms. Some cases are caused by infection, while others are chronic and require a more individualized treatment plan.
Elevated PSA / Prostate Cancer Evaluation
A high PSA level does not automatically mean cancer, but it does require appropriate evaluation. Urologists help interpret PSA results, assess prostate size and risk factors, and determine whether additional testing, imaging, or biopsy is needed.
Bladder Cancer & Other Urinary Tract Tumors
Bladder and other urinary tract cancers may first appear through hematuria or abnormal imaging. Urologists perform the workup, cystoscopy, and treatment planning needed for timely diagnosis and coordinated care. Hematuria evaluation is especially important because tumors of the kidney, urinary tract, or bladder are part of the differential diagnosis.
